JOB PURPOSE : We are looking for an experienced R&D Scientific Lead to join our rapidly growing genomic sciences R&D team. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, the R&D Scientific Lead will be responsible for managing a molecular biology team in Limerick, Ireland, for the development of molecular biology workflows on the CLiC platform, and to future instrument platforms. Responsible for the verification testing of novel assay chemistries and workflows, test method development, and reagent manufacturing development. To carry out these duties, the R&D Scientific Lead will interact directly with the other Genomics R&D and Product Development personnel. The R&D Scientific Lead will work in close collaboration with assay development, systems integration, bioinformatics, hardware design, software, and other functional groups to insure successful development of molecular biology workflows, assays, and commercial kits instrumentation. RESPONSIBILITIES : Prioritize tasks to ensure completion of projects under challenging timelines. Contributes to both assay and product development and develops work plans to move. Serve as technical lead in collaboration with internal and possibly external partners. Acts independently within team expectations, provides guidance, and work assignments to less experienced team members. Develops and maintains an understanding of the full breadth of platforms available in the clinical and non-clinical diagnostic industries. Manages and develops a mid-size molecular biology team. Serves as primary contact between the molecular biology team and the instrument engineering team. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: A M.S. degree in Genomics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or closely related discipline required. Ph.D. is preferred. Minimum of 5 years of life science industry product development experience required. REQUIRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE. Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Experience with standard molecular biology techniques (PCR, qPCR, library preparation, DNA quality analysis, DNA quantitative analysis) is required. Strong track record for developing and launching new molecular biology reagents, and / or developing life science reagent and consumable products and applications. Will travel 10-20% of the time. PREFERRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE. Specific experience with Next Generation Sequencing and associated workflows is preferred. Familiarity with either Illumina or Ion Torrent NGS instruments systems and emerging platforms is a plus. Experience with automation, data acquisition, and statistical methods. Experience creating R&D work environments where agile product development can flourish. Experience working with bioinformatics teams on front end assay designs, and back end experimental data analysis. Experienceas an R&D lead for development projects is preferred. Experience writing SOPs, verification and validation protocols, and working within a Quality Management System. Strong relationship-builder, especially across scientific functions.
