The primary purpose of this position is to be the European Data Protection subject matter expert on all activities associated with the management of personal data. Position : European Data Protection Officer. Reporting to : EMEA Legal Counsel. Responsibilities: Provide practical guidance and advice internally on Data Protection matters while working under the guidance of EMEA Legal Counsel and Cook’s Global Director of Privacy to ensure alignment. Develop and implement Data Protection policies and procedures. Develop training programmes for employees on Data Protection and provide employee training on this subject. Work closely with the IT department to ensure that Data Protection requirements are incorporated into existing and new IT projects. Act as a liaison between functions and IT in relation to explanation and resolution of IT Data Protection issues. Work with functions collaboratively to ensure that Data Protection considerations are incorporated at the outset of new projects. Proactively and collaboratively work with Data Protection coordinators to maintain compliance with current requirements and to develop and execute agreed solutions. Work with Data Protection coordinators to ensure that process efficiency and Data Protection requirements are complimentary. Maintain an awareness of changing Data Protection requirements in the EU, including the GDPR requirements and ensure that business processes are prepared for upcoming changes. Assist with the investigation of data breaches and resolution as may be required. Implement Data Protection internal audit methodology. Provide regular updates to Cook EMEA Senior management team (WCE, CIRL & Field based. Work collaboratively with Cook counterparts globally to achieve a one Cook approach to Data Protection requirements. Work collaboratively with the external Data Protection community, building up an EMEA network of contacts and advisors. Participate in Global Ethics & Compliance initiatives. Ensure that the COOK® brand and image is communicated in a positive and consistent manner to all customers, both external and internal. Ensure that all duties are carried out in compliance with the company’s Quality Management System. Ensure that Cook’s Code of Conduct is considered in all business matters carried out on Cook’s behalf. Qualifications: Relevant legal or business degree desired. A professional qualification in Data Protection will be advantageous. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Date Protection role. Requirements: Knowledge of international privacy and data security regulations. Good understanding of IT technical requirements and challenges advantageous. Excellent analytical, reading/comprehension, writing skills and strong attention to detail. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to multi task prioritize a dynamic workload and manage conflicting deadlines. Must possess ability to exercise good judgment, communicate with clarity, diplomacy and discretion. Excellent leadership, problem-solving and interpersonal skills. Must be able to work independently under general supervision and occasionally work as part of a larger inter-disciplinary team. European language, other than English advantageous.
